Through the Physical Education programme at Whatfield it is hoped that all children participate in a wide range of activities over a three year rolling timetable. Lessons, lunchtime challenges and afterschool clubs and events are all designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all.

The key stage one programme focusses on developing fine and gross motor skills, an awareness of our bodies and how they work and the initial stages of partner and teamwork. Children are given maximum practice time and are encouraged to evaluate their own performance, recognising when they have improved and starting to think about why.

Key stage two activities have a greater focus on skill and tactical development and give the children greater knowledge of the health benefits of exercise and how they can improve their own health and fitness. Children also experience more competitive situations and learn the rules of traditional games to prepare them for intra and interschool events.
